Zier Institute

Zier Institute is a pediatric occupational therapy clinic focused on the treatment of children with autism, sensory integration disorders, ADD/ADHD and learning and emotional challenges. We follow a relationship-based, developmental approach to therapy. This approach is built on the belief that development occurs within the context of the parent-child relationship. From this point the child develops the capacity to self-regulate, share attention, be reciprocal, explore and learn. Contact us today to find out how we can help your child.

These anti-racism resources for kids and families have been collected by our occupational therapists in Omaha and Chicago over the past six weeks. Just as we shared resources about talking to kids about COVID, we‘re sharing resources/action-steps for kids in order to support our families in starting or continuing the conversation with their kids, when and if they feel the time is right. Back to school!?! Why would we mention this when we’ve just NOW begun to enjoy a little summer fun? Whether we want to think about it or not, which is a perfectly understandable reaction at this juncture, back to school will - or possibly won’t - be here before we know it. {Insert a BIG SIGH!} Back to school preparations are going to look and feel different this coming school year. Parent involvement is critical to successful intervention with a child. Treatment plans thrive when parents feel engaged and empowered during the process. Initially, it can be a parallel process as the parent(s) themselves get to a place where coaching and knowledge is received openly.

It’s not always easy but it’s always worth it.

This gives us ALL the feels ‼️ As we’re currently discussing emotional regulation and co-regulation with many families, these important messages from @drbeckyathome resonate loudly.
.
Dr. Becky recommends that in addition to reflecting to our child that they are a good kid having a hard time and that we see his or her goodness under their struggles, we must also reflect that onto ourselves, “I am a good parent having a hard time. I see my goodness under my struggles.” 🙌🏼 Yes! We all need to feel more of this - parents, people, and kids 🙌🏼
